Museum A-Ö » Vaasa City Art Gallery

Vaasa City Art Gallery is situated on the ground floor of Vaasa City Hall. The City Hall was completed in 1883 and in addition to the government there were many important city offices in the building, as well as the so called Museum Hall, where exhibitions were set up. The premises of the Vaasa City Art Gallery have previously functioned as a garage for fire trucks.

The Art Gallery opened in 1966. Before that the premises were thoroughly renovated, and thus the city received a modern and bright space for exhibiting art. The only reminders of the building’s history are the arched brick ceiling and the iron pillars supporting it.

The museum’s art department annually organizes 7-9 exhibitions in the Art Gallery. In the exhibitions are displayed both domestic visual art and international artists. A section of the art gallery’s premises has been rented out for Photogallery Ibis. Ibis annually arranges 8-12 exhibitions.

The entrance of the Art Gallery is on the main façade side of the building on Raastuvankatu. Entry with a wheelchair or a baby carriage is most convenient through the entrance on Vaasanpuistikko.
