The environments displayed in Skären were photographed at seven different locations during four seasons. Twenty-seven people participate in the museum as different characters.
Do you know how to use a nail marker? Why is it a good idea to take the seal spear with you, when you go out on the ice? And what is the recipe for classic Scandinavian filbunke?
The answer to these and countless other questions can be found on Skären – a Museum on the Net!
Skären is a museum which exists solely on the Internet. In the museum you’ll get to meet the fictitious Sjöberg family, who lived in the Ostrobothnian archipelago some hundred years ago. When you take part in the everyday life of each member of the family, you will learn more about fishing, seal hunting, boat-building, life at home and the lives of the children. The museum is built up around five themes, each shedding light on certain aspects of life in the archipelago through artefacts, stories, pictures and films.
A visit to Skären is a journey through a number of rooms or scenes, each produced as 360-degree pictures. By clicking on the artefacts in the rooms, you can read more about the artefact in question, its usage and origin. Each theme comes with a material database with old photographs, films and sound recordings – for those who wish to learn more.
Skären ‒ a Museum on the Net has been created as a result of close co-operation between three associations for local history – the Bosund Boat, Fishing and Hunting Museum; the Local history association for the Replot archipelago / Granösund Fishing Museum and the Local history association of the village of Malax / Kvarken Boat Museum – a cultural organization operating on a regional level – KulturÖsterbotten – and a media production company – ReThink New Media Solutions.
